ref points for this collection were organic materials, a vague notion of the construction and deconstruction of buildings, specifically the notion of home, and, the sisters claim, Frankenstein.
via style.com: “The Mulleavys’ main conceit was marbling. Pale leathers and silk chiffons were printed or silk-screened to resemble veined gray stone, then cut up Edward Scissorhands-style, collaged onto skirts and minidresses—like Frankenstein’s skin was pieced together—and worn with fierce hip boots by Nicholas Kirkwood. ‘Like straitjackets’ is how Laura described some of the bondage-y leathers.”
It’s a bit unfortunate that Nicholas Kirkwood should turn out to be the designer of those beauties…his work is a rather bit too tacked-together for me and often looks as if it will date quickly like a boutique shoe. Reservations aside, these boots are pretty perfect in silhouette, with the thigh being just fitted enough. Perhaps there isn’t enough platform here to warrant infatuation though?
